Our Most Beloved Mom... ...

This letter was written by our eldest sis about our beloved mum who passed away peacefully on 26th May 2013:

The demise of my mom marks the end of a generation who lived through the turbulent time of wars and hardship.

Mom was born 1920 in a village in China. While she was 18 my grandma grabbed her from the Lee family to her house to be a bride in waiting. There she waited for an unknown man to come from Muar to marry her. Luckily my dad obediently traveled back to perform the formal wedding. After that he came back to Muar again.

When the second world war broke out, they lost contact. Over here my grand uncle urged him to marry a local girl but my dad did not agree. After the war, dad resumed contact and brought back money to buy land, then he left again. I was born without knowing who my father was.

Our padi fields were all confiscated later. Dad knew it was hopeless. He managed to get us to join him here and later our grandma came too. For his quick action I am really grateful otherwise we would have suffered during the great famine and the cultural revolution.

Mom was a remarkable lady of her generation. When the communists took over China, she did not send me to school. She said that it was all propaganda and preaching hatred in school. In stead she collected some books and taught me to write and read in Teo Chiew dialect under the dim oil lamp light at night. Later when I was in Junior Middle 2 I was really impressed by how she read the classic "祭蔡松坡文 " in Teo Chiew in her sing song manner.

She was strict with us when we were in primary school. She checked our exercise books every week. If our writing was bad she tore the pages that were written badly and ordered us to rewrite. Once she threw away my basketball shoes as she thought that I was too involved in the sport.

When more children came one by one she had a tough time. Those days she was always sweating all over having to deal with the chores and later an additional task of looking after my semi mobile grandma who suffered from a stroke and a fall. Dad was always a father in absence. He used to hang around in town chit chatting or playing cards, only came back for meals and sleep. It was mom who attended to our studies and shaped our character.

When we had our own families and careers, she transformed herself from a tiger mother into a "teddy bear". She no longer exerted any pressure on us, never demanding, always contented with what she had and was happy when children went back to see her.

She had gone quietly and her ashes scattered out of the Muar river estuary. We, the siblings will still talk about her. Love transcends barriers and time.......

Book Vouchers Again!

Manage to collect the 1M book vouchers given by Ah Jib Gor again for the second time right before my graduation! Ah Jib Kor is a most generous Santa Claus who has given away so much money in the name of 1 Malaysia to all his people from young to old throughout these two years, and is still giving now. And I am lucky enough to have been able to benefit twice from the 1 Malaysia, I do not know what else I have really benefited from the 1 Malaysia transformation project besides the book vouchers received twice. What I actually looking forward to  is a country with better economy, a country with a better educational system, a country free from corruption, a country with a truly independent judiciary system, a country with no more racial issues where all the people live in peace and harmony......But in the end, nothing turns out  better besides the cash-giving which seems meaningless to the transformation of the country!

Anyway, I should still thank Ah Jib Kor for the book voucher, thank you, Ah Jib Kor,  gonna shop for my desired books this coming weekend! :)

Rest In Peace

It's the last day of the term.

Received the message of Neo's decease from his wife on the way to school early in the morning. Stopped my car at the roadside to let the tears flowed for a while, and then, continued with my journey to the school again...

Dear Boon Keon, may you rest in peace......

UPSR again!

Finally, fought off the virus without going back to the doctor! No more bad cough and fever, and my antibody should have grown stronger after this battle.

Three more days before the UPSR! Got my 6B and 6J students prepared for my subject! Looking forward to their best performance after working hard together with them since beginning of the year. Hopefully they will try their best during the exam and there will be no regret among them after that!

Good luck boys and girls, you can definitely make it!

Sick

Two weeks passed, and I am still fighting hardly with the most stubborn virus within me!

Life was such hectic for the past month with so many exercises, tests and assignments on statistic study to be done! Even the dreams at night were also made up by chi square, F-ratio, t-test, z-test, ANOVA test, Post Hoc test, Kruskel Wallis test etc...

In addition, there were students' exam sheets to be marked, scores to be recorded, homework to be marked, data to be keyed in, holiday class to be conducted....

And in the end, exhausted and fall sick!

I couldn't afford to miss the lectures or to give up any of the assignments as well as test and exam just because I am badly sick as I do not wanna be left out during next year's graduation too. And the only person that I could reach for help was the doctor.
However, the medicine given by the doctor didn't work well, and yet, although statistic class and exam were already over, but the viruses are still there.

Bad cough and fever keeps pestering me, and I still need to work, as UPSR is around the corner.
Got to go back to the doctor again, and this time, the same request will be made again:

Don't prescribe medicine that makes me drowsy after taking, I need to stay awake to work!

A Heart-warming Day

Received an unexpected but pleasing message while having holiday class in the school this morning!
It's from Fung Ming, my old boy from SJKC Ldg Pengkalan Bukit, the first school I went to when I first started my teaching career, hoping that we could meet and have lunch together.
How very excited I was to be able to hear from him again since I last heard from him when he rang me up from Malacca after getting straight A's for his PMR, and we haven't seen each other since he left the school.

Fung Ming came to the school to fetch me for lunch when my class ended at noon.
We were really glad to meet with each other again after around 18 years we were separated, and what a matured, smart, humble, compassionate, loving and wise young man he has become now!
We had lunch together and shared lots of the nostalgic memories of those happy and peaceful days while we were learning together in the estate. We were thankful to each other for having a really good time together in the past. We talked about how we prepared for the story telling contest together, how he used to get first place in the class for the school exams as there were only three of them in the class, ha!
How very comfortable and heart-warming it was to hear him sharing his life experience and wisdom with me! And from the achievement of his career at his age, I am sure he has been striving really hard and he has really made me proud of him!

Thank you boy for your most heart-warming visit, you have really made my day, all the best to you in your career and may your family be blessed forever...
